Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark’s speech to his mother, Queen Margrethe II, at the gala dinner in honour of her 70th birthday.

The last gif!

Preface: I LOVE THE DANES. FUCKING LOVE THEM.

This gif-set makes me eyeroll into next week. Mary sit down. You got so overwhelmed by feels that you had to run over and cover your husband in kisses? In public? At his mother’s birthday party? Really?

I feel the need to defend this moment. Frederik has been having problems with insecurity since forever and had generally become known in Denmark as a bad speaker (some medias have even suggested that he might be/have been suffering from aphasia). However, this speech has been the first (apart from his wedding speech to Mary) where he, though being nervous, remained composed, genuine and well-balanced. Absolutely no one had predicted this. The speech came from his heart and he was even widely praised for it in the medias. It’s visible that QMII got rather emotional and was very proud of her son. This was a very important speech for Frederik, and the reason why Mary ran over and kissed him, was that she was so immensely proud of him - and rightfully so. This is not something she normally would do, but this was such an important moment that she felt the need to break royal protocol to tell her husband that he did a wonderful job. On a personal level, as someone who has battled anxiety and as a Dane, I think this was such a touching and strong moment. This is the moment when he convinced the Danish people (and his family) that he will be a great King one day. And I absolutely think that running over and kissing Frederik it was the right thing for Mary to do. Really.
